Shaftesbury Partnership turn to Bumblebee to Solve their Online Offering

We've just launched the Shaftesbury Partnership site in time for the party political season. Shaftesbury came to us in the summer, having seen our work for other ethical investment websites such as Investing For Good and Charity Bank.

Their existing site, built in WordPress, suffered from its blog specific templates which put constraints on the site's appearance and logic. After explaining the advantage of Drupal in terms of its design freedom and functionality, the new site was completed from start to finish in under two months and we understand it has received good feedback. Shaftesbury Partnership are much happier because they have a site that is more reflective of themselves, with a thought-provoking blog, much greater image-led content and a cool, confident UI.

innovative e-commerce - bumblebee develop 'The Selector'

A recent article in the industry publication The Drum has indicated that online customers want a little bit more from their web experience. This is certainly a position that bumblebee have always taken, having built the award winning and ground breaking River Island site.

The cautious nature of today's e-commerce world, sees a plethora of identikit sites, whose sole nod to brand identity is a logo. This safety first attitude, although understandable, is crying out for someone to have a bit more cohonas.

Our recent development for Dalvey shows that the high end market is prepared to be more adventurous. It is looking for that cutting edge functionality that will differentiate it from rivals. The site uses 'the selector' to buy shirts and ties.

The Selector has been designed to enhance the customer experience, allowing users to view products through refined searches but uniquely customers can see what's being rejected, much more in line with the shop experience of shopping rails and things catching your eye.

The 'Selector' principle can work for a number of parameter-driven products or services as shown on our demo on this site.

Robert Timmons 2011 Launches

Bumblebee have just launched the latest revamp of Robert Timmons Furniture in time for 100% Design show at Earl's Court.

This is Bumblebee's third web incarnation for RTF and sees a significant jump forward from the successful flash version. The outstanding photography is given sumptuous full screen treatment, as well as cross device viewability and full content management.

There are a few neat features like allowing screen clutter to disappear when viewing projects.

Flash Sites on iPad and iPhone

Bumblebee switched across to Drupal as their main development platform about two and a half years ago, but there are still some of our clients who have flash sites. As a result, they have become victim of Apple's anti-Flash policy, and don't have a web presence on iPad or iPhone.

With these viewing devices becoming hugely popular, clients with Flash sites are left with a couple of options, or risk being invisible to a sizeable audience.

A growing number have got us to rebuild their sites, a tough decision, but for some clients, an essential one. In doing so, they've been pleasantly surprised by how cool our new generation Drupal sites look and work plus there's the added benefits of easy upgrades to functionality, content-management and vastly improved SEO.

Another option is to build an html version of your site, which iPad or iPhone users will be automatically redirect to. This option is probably more suited to smaller and simpler brochure based sites. It's a less expensive option, but clients will miss out on the added benefits.

Understandably, it's not an ideal situation, but with Apple unlikely to shift its stance, it's a decision that our client's are having to make.

A Brand New Drupal Bumblebee Site

We've finally done it, we've managed to stash away enough 'me time' to rebuild our poor old site. No longer will our client's tell us that our site is showing latest news stories from years ago.

Joking apart, this site does see us make an important move away from a flash-front end to our Drupal-based front end. Our belief in the Drupal way of building sites has always been slightly undermined by our very own site not being able to 'walk the same walk', so now we are one.

Bumblebee Behind Charity Bank Brand Relaunch

Bumblebee were invited by Charity Bank, who provide vital loans to UK charities and non-profit organisations, to handle their online and print communications including web marketing.

The corporate website relaunched at the turn of the year. The previous site was overly complex with a few blind alleys, so Bumblebee first dealt with tidying up the information architecture and then set about creating a Drupal-based site that was cleaner, clearer and brand focussed.

This has been followed by the launch of a blog as well as press ads, annual report, project portfolio and promotional video.

Full Screen : The Perfect Portfolio

At Bumblebee, we like pushing the boundaries, especially where the web is concerned. Since launching, we've been heavily involved in image-based sites for photographers, architects, photographic agencies, art directors and design agencies. In the past, this was a no brainer flash-based solution, which although visually on the money, did also have some drawbacks.

With our new generation drupal-based html sites using jQuery, this is no longer the case. We can now produce sites with maximum eye appeal, that take into account other essentials like, search engine optimisation, cross-device and platform compatibility and cross-screen consistency. One of our latest sites to show this can be found at peterantunes.com, an art director for fashion catalogues. The site allows him total freedom to create galleries and stories in full screen glory, as well as a nifty hide button which gets rid of screen clutter.
